Today I got 339.2 miles on a single tank. I know... that might not seem like that much for you Hybrid guys, but for me, it was a big improvement. Over the last month I have been trying to alter my driving habits to yield better fuel economy. I had listened to this show on NPR about this guy that was able to get 45 MPG out of a standard non-motified Civic, so I figure, if he could get a big improvement, maybe I could also. I wasn't about to go to his extremes (turning off AC, coasting below the speedlimit, running red lights, turning corners at high speed (if he was at speed). His key advice was, if your breaking, your wasting gas.

For work today I had to help someone figure out how to link our building database application to web based mapping software. As of recently I've become bored with Google Maps, and spent time looking at Live Search Maps, since they have a bunch of web based tools for adding thumb tacks and a neat 3D view (which is kinda freaky). First I found this Top 10 Cool Features in Live Search Maps and from there, I was able to figure out How to build a URL for Live Search Maps. And from that you find out that you can just add any street address to a static URL and get the map and from there, someone could get directions. Submitted by tfiske on Tue, 12/05/2006 - 18:06.
Well I've owned my car long enough that I now need to get a smog check. After reading through the letter that the DMV sends you I found that they have an online database that you can search for finding a "Test Only" smog place. Which usually means faster test time (20 minutes), and less money ($45.00). :) Auto Smog To find a Smog Check place go here: http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/StationList/StationList.aspx Submitted by tfiske on Mon, 12/12/2005 - 18:57.
One of my favorite car movies of all time is the short film "Rendezvous," a short made by French film maker Claude Lelouch who, it is said, mounted a camera on the bumper of his Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona and drove at high speed in urban Paris up to the Cathedral at Montmarte at about 4:30 in the morning. The film is absolutely uncut and has never been doctored. It is very scandalous. You can download it at http://www.wildboston.com/m3d14/video/rendezvous20_04.wmv Damn... it makes my heart race just leaving the sound playing in the background... |
