My Favorite line from Aliens
Ripley: Well, someone's gonna have to go down there, take a portable transmitter and patch in.
Hudson: Yeah, sure, with those things running around? You can count me out.
Hicks: Well I guess we can count you out of everything then.
Hudson: That's right, man.
Bishop: I'll go. I mean, I'm the only one qualified to remote-pilot the ship anyway.
Hudson: That's right, man, Bishop should go. Good idea!
Bishop: Believe me I prefer not to. I may be synthetic but I'm not stupid
how to cleanly start and stop explorer.exe
If you are running Windows XP and want a cmd prompt with no strange environment variables set, do the following: CTRL+SHIFT+ESC->File->CTRL+New Task (Run...)
This will open a cmd window with only the basics. This is useful if you have killed Explorer and need to restart it. Explorer will keep the environment of the cmd window that started it.
If you want to cleanly shutdown Explorer without having it automatically restart: Start->Shutdown->CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+Cancel.
Daters hatered of the 8 O’clock hour
Well this is a interesting article about a company that provides a 'fake' call to your cell phone to help you get out of a date that is going bad...
Date Rescue Calls - on Yahoo
According to this short bit by the Associated Press, the peak time for dates to go sour in New York City is 8 o'clock - at least if you go by data from the "date rescue" call service provided by Cingular and Virgin Mobile (pictured here using top scinece techniques to develop "lies"). Both services make a fake call to your cell at a pre-appointed time, giving you an excuse to ditch out on a crappy date if things aren't going as well as you'd hoped.
Or you could just do it the old fashioned way, and remind your date that in the spirit of honest communication, it's probably best to get the herpes talk out of the way first.
Buying Corvette Accessories
I have bought several times from Mid-America, and find their selection to be good, and service also good. Take a look at their online catalog. I am particularly partial to the corvette wall clock...

Update your Windows XP machine to SP2
Everyone should update all of their computers to SP2. This new "service pack" is packed with many features to help protect your home computer.
It will be available via Windows Update soon, or you can download it from TechNet right now.
Here is a snippet from Slash Dot...
"Service Pack 2 for Windows XP has been released to manufacturers (RTM), is available to MSDN customers, and will soon be available to all via Windows Update and Microsoft sites. At ~ 250 megs, the download is big, and Microsoft will be offering the option of getting it on CDs. The much awaited Service Pack comes with many security updates (new NX and DEP protection), extra features (firewall, security center), and improvements for Windows. New versions of IE and OE come with the release, as well as improvements in the wireless networking field. So far, the service pack seems to be very stable (no known major issues) and does seem to speed up most systems. A review of SP2 Final with some limited download links is available at Neowin.net. I'd urge all users (pirate users too) to deploy the service pack and benefit from the genuine effort Microsoft have made with regards to security in this release."
Decoding the information on your MagStrip
http://stripesnoop.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html
Stripe Snoop is a suite of research tools that captures, modifies, validates, generates, analyzes, and shares data from magstripe cards. The data is captured through different hardware interfaces (or stdin), the contents decoded into the correct character set, and then a CDDB-like database attempts to figure out what the contents mean.
Gmail’s most needed feature… GTRAY
Well I have had a GMAIL account for several months now, and to be honest it wasn't very useful. I had no way of knowing when I got email to it, and honestly it had issues with cookies and trust. I find the who interface a bit different than most. But I have now found a unique tool that may change my view of gmail. Its called GTRAY. Gtray sits in my toolbar, and changes from a G to a M when i have mail. Its configured to check every 30 minutes. I can just click on the icon, and it pops open a new page for me to read my mail, then shut it back down.
Check out the guys web site. http://torrez.us/gtray
Vending Machines for EVERYTHING
Good link from Gabe's site...
PhotoMann recently decided to 'collect' images of unique vending machines found in Japan. They are everywhere. Estimates suggest there are 5.6 million vending machines which works out to be one for every 20 people in Japan. Sales from vending machines in 2000 totaled $56 billion! The most common are drink and cigarette machines followed by machines with pornography. All of the images in this section are taken with a Nikon Coolpix 5000. Below is a sampling of the machines to be found.

Some pictures without having to link... the porn pictures were pretty boring, so the beer ones take the cake as coolest... and the custom condom dispenser.
