Game: Kings of Chaos

I'm inviting you all to join me in an on line game, that is turn based, and could be played for about 5 minutes a day and still be fun. CLicking on the link below of course helps me, but if we work together, we should be able to have a big army to run around with. I am an ORC.

KhanTheOrc to join in.

In Kings of Chaos, you are in command of an army of either humans, elves, dwarves or orcs. The aim of the game is to achieve the highest overall ranking - worked out by taking a combination of your attack, defence, and covert (spy) rankings - whoever has the lowest combined ranking will be 1st in the overall rankings. This makes it important to keep your army evenly balanced in all these areas.

Blackberry to do VoIP over Wi-Fi

from www.gizmodo.com

BlackBery 7270: Voice Over Wi-Fi

The BlackBerry 7270 (7290 pictured) is being shown off at the Gartner ITXPO Symposium by Research In Motion (RIM). The 7270 incorporates 802.11 support for both voice and data applications, and while it's only going to work with RIM's backend (targeted mainly at big corps) it seems to portend other 802.11 VoWLAN devices in the future. It's already hard for many people to draw a firm line between phones and PDAs. It's only going to get worse (better).

Figure out what runs on startup on your machine

Recently I have been helping alot of people remove spyware, trojan horses, and viruses from their machines. One of the first things I do is login and look at all the things thrown into their registry and startup folder. These two utilities do alot to help you find out what is set to run, and who the publisher of the file is.

msconfig.exe - is free, and is installed on all Windows machines. Use MSConfig.exe from the Start->Run to see what services and registry keys are being set to launch when you login to the computer.

AutoRuns - is free, but you have to download it from the SysInternal folks. Its hosted on www.spychecker.com autoruns

It is important to run this util from the start menu not the command line. It would be useful if it could be found from the command line. See my other articles on spy ware, trojan horses and modifying and searching the registry.

Transformers meet paper

An interesting site where a guy has created paper cut outs of the Transformers Series. He calls them Paperformers.

I have yet to print them out and see how they work. Its very simular to the guy that made small arcade games for his daughters doll house. 🙂

Cats out of the bag

Well I finally went and get my ears pierced. Check out Inner Energy - NR NRG. Eddie that runs the place is really cool, and focus on techniques to center and calm yourself for the piercing. I wanted to start with a 12 guage, but went with a 14, and figure if I really want the horned earings that are 12's, I can stretch up to them. For now I have your basic ball hoop.

I really recommend this guy. Check him out in San Diego. Call for an appointment.

Using netstat -b to find out which programs use which ports

I was going to do a somewhat long and drawn out method of obtaining a port match to process ID and how to find out what program is using that process ID(to help people running game servers and chat programs etc.), however it looks like Microsoft finally updated one of their network/system diagnostic tools. For those of you who use netstat already will find the new features to be long awaited, and for those that have not yet used it may consider using it for helping you diagnose network/firewall issues potentially brought on with installation of Windows XP SP2.

netstat -b

... snip output ...

From this you can see that my company setup a proxy for most instant messengers.

Friends travelling to Africa

Some friends of mine travelled to Africa this past September. They used 2Africa as their tour company and had great things to say about it. For 15 days of travel, flight, and park entrance, they paid $3,300 per person. They were in Tanzania and Kenya. Way to go Tanya and Jim...
