Firefox Memory Leak Feature
Found this link which solves a huge memory issue when I'm using SessionSaver to keep 40 tabs open at the same time. Current memory use before implementing this as 161,680KB + 368,644KB of memory, 132 Tabs open...
"The Firefox memory leak is not a bug. It's a feature! The 'feature' is how the pages are cached in a tabbed environment." From the article: "To improve performance when navigating (studies show that 39% of all page navigations are renavigations to pages visited less than 10 pages ago, usually using the back button), Firefox 1.5 implements a Back-Forward cache that retains the rendered document for the last five session history entries for each tab. This is a lot of data. If you have a lot of tabs, Firefox's memory usage can climb dramatically. It's a trade-off. What you get out of it is faster performance as you navigate the web."
To turn this off:
Type "about:config" (no quotes) into your address bar, then scroll down to the browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers setting, double-click on it, then change the number to 0 and hit OK.
POV Lights for Burning Man
As part of Burning Man, one always rides their bike around the playa. This year a group of us are going to get lights for our bikes to make them more visable. While researching, we came across the following kit, that lets you upload your own images into the lightbar, and if desired add animation to the image. As you can see above. Each of these kits runs about $40 a tire, and to get fluid graphics at slower speeds you actually need 2-3 bars. So it starts to add up quickly. But the idea of soldering this all together and making it work just sounds cool!

Samsung sph-i500 and Phone Reviews
Well just got an IM from a friend of mine that bought a $400 palm based PDA phone, only to find out the phone is severly crippled. A phone that has a Palm OS, should have no problem doing 2-way SMS text and MMS. But as you read the review of this phone online, (which seems to be a good site), you see many features lacking.
Some people on the internet have filed the void, and created some applications that allow this core cell phone technology to work again.
BTW, anyone with a Palm based Cell Phone might want to look at SnapperMail, a very good POP3 mail client. Of course, Palm just switched to PocketPC. or should i say "Windows Mobile", and so all these functions will work by default, but it doesn't run any PALM applications. So you have to switch to a windows interface on your phone, which I can't say I like.
New DVD Burner
I am getting a new DVD burner that supports Dual Layer, I was surprised to see how the price on DVD burners has dropped through the floor. For about $50, you can get a new dual layer burner. I needed to be able to do 3 things with this burner. 1) Rip in existing CD's very fast. 2) Burn DVD-R's with my existing media, and 3) have future proofing by getting Dual Layer support.
I finally selected the NEC ND-3550A because of its Read (22x with EAC's secure mode) ability in combination with its ability to do high speed burns. Dual Layer DVD+R at 8x, and DVD-R at 6x.
The only review I could find was on the 3540A's. I also looked at the Pioneer, Sony, and Plextor, and found for the price performance this was the best for my needs. Also, there was no review for the 3550A's, so I based my purchase off the 3540A's.
A good article on CDFreaks.com about the 3540A's read performance
I eventually bought from TigerDirect... $51.99 with shipping
Vacation to Cozumel
I am not able to go on this Diving Trip with the Qualcomm group this year, but I do plan on visiting Scuba Club Cozumel at some point.

SIP Login from Trillian
Well another wave of good things from Trillian, after the silent release of a stable Jabber.DLL for Jabber communications (and the ability to login to Google Talk) I am now also happy to report that I'm able to login to our companies Microsoft Only Live Communications Server from Trillian.
Microsoft supports access to their network via TLS and SIP. So the SIP plugin for Trillian with a little coaxing was able to do the trick. I am able to see my buddy list and exchange messages with them. Nothing super fancy, but good for 99% of what I want to do at work. I know voice is up and coming but seriously until we all geek out and wear headphones, or get microphones that properly don't get feedback from my speakers that is a bit off... but I digress.
You can download it here: http://zoosmart.us/sip/
So the settings were pretty clear...

I tried using the ip address, and it didn't really like that. I think it needs the DNS name of the machine so that it can properly look up the SRV records in DNS.
